Each year on or around 29th April, women worldwide celebrate the Associated Country Women of the World's international network by joining together to Walk the World. ACWW World President Magdie de Kock is delighted that you are supporting her as she Walks the World to raise awareness of the role women play in global food systems.
This year we are walking on Saturday 17 October. Suggested locations include along the beautiful serene waterfront at Victoria Park in Charlottetown, or spectacular Waterfront trail in Summerside, and enjoy the picturesque scenery of Confederation Trail in Montague or a location of your choice to highlight this fundraising effort. Participants can choose their location, walk, and assist raising funds for ACWW by donating online.
The slogan and promotion for the event is #WillWalkForFood. The walks will be real, and the globe will be connected virtually to bring attention to global food security. We recommend following local guidelines on social distancing and this will be a wonderful chance to join together and mark the International Day of Rural Women.
The funds raised by this walk, and donated through this website page will go to ACWW's Pennies for Friendship fund, supporting the core running costs of the organisation, its work advocating for rural women, and promoting sustainability.
This year, ACWW and it's members have been affected by the Covid-19 Pandemic. Because member societies are rightly following WHO and government guidelines and not having meetings, we have seen a decrease in donations to the enabling fund of ACWW: Pennies for Friendship.
You will know that our projects donations (The Women Empowered Fund) are restricted to only funding projects and their direct associated costs, so all the other work of ACWW is reliant on Pennies for Friendship. This includes UN representation and participation, promotional and educational materials like the magazine and leaflets, research, Board members' outreach, board and committee meetings, and staffing.
While ACWW has financial security because of our reserves, we need our members to help ensure that ACWW is able to continue all of it's vital work, this year and beyond. So, as you plan your event, we will provide you with resources that explain how ACWW uses your donations to help rural women around the world.
