26th ACWW Triennial Conference 2010: I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the members of the USA societies for an outstanding job supporting the 26th Triennial held at Hot Springs, Arkansas, in April. The committee is truly appreciative of the financial and membership support that helped to make it run smoothly.
Who would have thought that an Icelandic volcano could affect a conference in the middle of the United States? The fact that our voting ballots were still in England when registration started was a minor setback. The resourcefulness of the committee and the executive board, along with the help of ACWW members from around the globe, got the necessary paperwork copied and ballots out, so that the first business day could start on time.
The official paperwork and flags arrived around noon on the day of the opening ceremony. It was an impressive programme and the speech by Josie Fernandez fit into our conference theme really well. What a thrill to receive the first National Parks collector quarter $, depicting Hot Springs National Park. The planning committee learned of the possibility of the quarter being brought out about three weeks prior to the conference. We worked with the visitor’s bureau to get quarters as a gift for each of those attending the opening ceremony.
Conference numbers: 24 countries attended, 634 people registered. (118 of these were part time and 258 were USA attendees.)
Membership fees: The conference passed a five per cent increase in dues to take effect January 1:
Category 1: £95 (US$165). Category 2: £58 ($105), Category 3: £48 ($90), Category 4a: £32 ($55), Category 4b, covering individual membership, remains at £20 or $42 for one year or $105 for three years.
London office is requesting you pay by credit card. This helps eliminate some of the cost they have to pay in the exchange of US dollars to pounds.
I am looking forward to serving you as your new USA Area President in the next three years. I would be pleased to visit with as many societies as fits my schedule, to promote the work of ACWW. Don’t hesitate to ask.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the members of USA societies for an outstanding job supporting the 26th ACWW Triennial held in Hot Springs, Arkansas, in April. The planning committee is truly appreciative of the financial and membership support that helped to make it run smoothly, even with the ‘bubbles and hiccups’ we had to deal with.
Who would have thought that an Icelandic volcano could affect a conference in the middle of the United States? The fact that our voting ballots were still in England when the registration started was a minor setback. The resourcefulness of the committee and the Executive Board, along with the help of ACWW members from around the globe, got the necessary paperwork copied and ballots cut, so that the first business day could start on time.
The decision to delay voting from Friday until Sunday, and the use of electronic voting for those who couldn’t get out of their countries, propelled ACWW into the age of technology. Nearly all the candidates were able to arrive and participate in the election.
The official paperwork arrived around noon on the day of the opening ceremony. It was an impressive programme and the speech by Josie Fernandez fitted into our conference theme really well.
Souvenir quarter $: What a thrill to receive the first National Parks collector quarter, depicting Hot Springs National Park! The planning committee learned of the possibility of the quarter being brought out about three weeks prior to the conference. We worked with the Hot Springs Visitors Bureau to get quarters as a gift for each of those attending the opening ceremony. A reception with cake and punch, held after the opening ceremony, was a great way to renew old acquaintances and make new one from around the globe.
One of the resolutions passed was for a five per cent increase in dues to take effect on January 1, 2011. The new dollar amount will be announced after the ACWW Board meeting in October.
Delegates were still arriving as late as Monday, April 26, and the stories they told about how they managed to get to various airports were truly amazing and gave one an idea of how dedicated members are to ACWW.
Triennial numbers: 24 countries attended, 634 people, including guests, registered, of these 118 were part time and 258 were from the USA.
