KENYA: Cereal Bank Project

Members of Kared-Fod Women’s Group are making great strides with their community-based cereal bank project.

The group acquired the building materials necessary for the construction of the storehouse and work was well under way by November. Two project staff were recruited and there has been some on farm training. Members of the community are now bringing their produce for marketing.

The group also grows maize, beans and sorghum. The main idea behind the project is to store and sell cereals during times of drought at reasonable prices and to generate an adequate income for individual households.

In the long term the cereal bank project should benefit over 455 households.
